ADVOCATE COLUMN 4th WEEK FEBRUARY 2016
Any success for a local business reflects well on our wider business community in Northland. For this reason it was great to hear at the end of last year when local business Kamo Home and Village were awarded the Bronze Award by the New Zealand Business Excellence Foundation. Kamo Home was a previous supreme winner of the Westpac Northland Business Excellence Awards in 2012 and the national recognition not only reflects well on them as a business but also the level of excellence being sought in our regional business awards.
The New Zealand Business Excellence Awards are fully aligned to the internationally respected and calibrated Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence and this is same criteria as our regional awards are loosely based on and it allows for local businesses, if they wish to continue in the pursuit of excellence.
Foundation Chief Executive Fiona Gavriel said, “We sincerely congratulate this year’s Award winner on successfully completing the rigorous and demanding evaluation process to achieve this world-class accolade – the achievement of which reflects an abiding focus on excellence in a challenging operating environment.”
In receiving this Award, Kamo Home and Village becomes the first aged care provider to be recognised with an award since the New Zealand Business Excellence Awards commenced in 1993. More importantly what this means for Whangarei is that Kamo Home and Village provides our community access a level product and service that has been measured and assessed to as good as anywhere in New Zealand if not the world. It shows once again that living in the regions does not have to be at the expense of access to quality service and that there is no reason why our businesses should not strive to attain excellence in their pursuit of business success.
Brett Marsh, Business Excellence Foundation Chairman and General Manager of Gold Award-winner Spectrum Care, said “Kamo Home and Village has demonstrated just such an abiding commitment to the people they support and to organisational excellence, and New Zealand is well-served by their presence in the community, their leadership and the example they set for their peers. Award recipients such as Kamo Home and Village have been measured against an internationally validated set of performance criteria, and are now recognised as being of a world-class standard in the Business Excellence community and beyond.”
