2014 Regional Economic Activity Report releasedThe Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment’s latest report on regional economies has been released today – with a new interactive web tool. The published 2014 Regional Economic Activity Report brings together a comprehensive set of economic data on New Zealand’s 16 regions in one place. It highlights each region’s performance in key areas important to regional living standards and economic growth.

The report is a useful aid in decision making for a wide range of stakeholders – from employers and investors, to councils, economic development agencies and government agencies.

This year the Regional Economic Activity Report includes, for the first time, the official measure of regional gross domestic product, more comprehensive figures on employment and incomes, and new sections on population and Māori economic development.

The published report is complemented by an interactive web tool that provides information on 66 sub-regional areas – on population; employment; and annual household income at the territorial local authority (TLA) level. Regional tourism expenditure and regional GDP data is also available.

The web tool provides charts, maps and other infographics not included in the published Regional Economic Activity Report. It offers greater flexibility and allows you to pick and combine variables for specific purposes. The web tool is available online or can be accessed on the go, through an offline version for tablets.

We invite you to view the 2014 Regional Economic Activity Report and the interactive web tool or tablet on our website.
